Jennifer Hudson is an award-winning American singer and actor. The Chicago native first achieved widespread attention as a finalist on the popular American Idol show. Following her excellent performance on the show she went on to snag the role of Effie in the 2006 movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, Dreamgirls, and her acclaimed performance in the film won many accolades. She followed up with another film in 2008 by starring in the box office hit, Sex in the City. Meanwhile, she continued to pursue her singing career with her debut self-titled album, which was released in 2008. The album peaked at number 2 in the US and was quickly certified Gold.
